MAY I add my contribution to the many — and well deserved — plaudits offered to Suzanne Watt for her organisational ability in putting on that splendid concert in Simmons Park, Okehampton.
But, I wonder how many spared a thought for the greatest benefactor of them all, Sydney Simmons, the man who returned to his birthplace, bought both the castle and the beautiful East Okement valley and gave them to us.
Would he have approved? Oh yes.
Was he there in spirit? I feel sure he was, especially when the orchestra gave that rendering of 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' and flashed green strobe lights through the trees. Eerie!
So, thank you, Sydney and thank you, Susanne. And a suggestion for next time for the benefit of those who elected to remain outside the perimeter fence — how about a choral version of that old music hall song — 'Come inside you silly beggars, come inside'.
