HAVING come to the end of my year as president of the Rotary Club of Tavistock I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported our various fundraising events, which enables us to help many local charities and also individuals in their efforts to help others.
The main fundraisers of the year have been the trolley dash at Morrisons, pop-up geese competition, charity golf day at Tavistock Golf Club, and the Christmas street collections.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone at these events we have been able to support, among others, Devon Air Ambulance, Dementia Alliance, the Son Rise Cup, Tavistock U15s rugby squad, Red Cross, Young Cricketers' Development, West Devon CAB, Tavistock Foodbank, the Christmas Tree Festival, Tavistock Music and Arts Festival, the Engage Theatre Group, Junior Life Skills Day at Okehampton for local primary schools and Devon Young Carers.
We have also been able to support the Tavistock Youth Speaks teams in their marvellous efforts in reaching regional and national finals; also two young people who travelled to Lourdes as volunteer carers and three Venture scouts going to Botswana to help at a learning centre.
I am confident that my successor, John Morton, will continue to maintain our club's excellent record and I wish him well for the year to come.
Trevor Williams
Immediate past president
