ON behalf of the Rotary Club of Okehampton, I would like to thank the mayoress, Francis Luxton, councillors, representatives from other organisations, and the public, who attended our annual Remembrance service on November 11. which traditionally is held on the actual day, except when it occurs on a Sunday.
The service was conducted by the Rev Father Peter Morgan from St Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Okehampton, and introduced by Rotarian John Burgess.
Ian Cann played the organ and the bugler was Aaron Diaz from the Okehampton College. A poem was read by the president of the Inner Wheel, Joan Booth, a bible reading by Rotarian Jerome Twomey, the exhortation by John Stevens, club president and the names of relatives or friends of those present who died in the wars by first vice-president John Moppett.
Thanks are expressed to Mrs Joan Gundry who helped with the service, the Okehampton Times for publicity and many others who helped. The offering which raised £133 is to be given to the Royal British Legion.
