TWO grateful elderly residents of Okehampton asked, through the Times, to thank two town council workers for their efforts in cleaning up the river path in Simmons Park. Brian Solomon popped into the Times offices, to ask the newspaper to express their gratitude, on behalf of his wife Ruth and her friend Betty Brock, who walk their dogs along the path but have recently found it covered it debris, rubbish as well as dog mess. Ruth, from The Glen in Okehampton, said: 'We would just like to thank the Simmons Park park keeper and his staff for cleaning the river walk past the Castle Hospital. My friend and I can now enjoy the lovely walk with our dogs.' The Times called the council on the ladies behalf and town clerk Don Bent said he would pass on their thanks to park keeper Dave Whitfield and his assistant Colin Brown for their clean up operation.
