ON behalf of Girlguiding in the Tavistock area I would like to thank local residents for their kind support of our Christmas Post service for 2012.
Members of Girlguiding promise to do their best and we hope the public was happy with the service we provided.
This was the 25th Christmas that guides have offered to deliver cards. In 1988, our stamps cost 5p and we delivered about 3,000 cards. This year, we held to our 20p price and deliveries numbered over 6,300.
Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section members enjoy acting as postmen, though we regret we were unable to find homes for six cards without addresses (for example, one just to 'Wendy').
Thank you, too, to the shops and outlets in the town who kindly sell stamps for us and act as posting stations. We appreciate your support.
Guiding offers lots of exciting opportunities for girls of all ages; anyone interested in getting involved is welcome to contact me on Tavistock 613661, Janet Piper on 613856 or Rica Olver on 612743. Thank you.

THE Salvation Army would like to thank all who donated toys and money to their Christmas toy appeal, especially St Eustachius Church for holding a toy service and Kaleidoscope Toys for their assistance.
Fifty-four children in the Tavistock area were provided with toys and sweets. Although it is sad that there are many families struggling in our area, I know they appreciated what was received thanks to the generosity of so many people.

WE would like to thank all those who attended our recent fund raising event for Christian Aid. It is extremely gratifying that a record total of £585 was raised, particularly in these difficult times.
Thank you very much for your support and your generosity. These funds have now been sent to Christian Aid to support their vital work in the developing world.

THE Rotary Club of Tavistock, and Father Christmas, would like to thank everyone who supported their Christmas appeal during the street collections and in Bedford Square during December — £1,800 was raised which will be donated to local charities during the coming year.
