ON behalf of the Lions Club of Tavistock, a sincere thank you to everyone who supported our carnival week.
The weather sadly caused the cancellation of Fun Day in the Meadows, which, in this year of the Olympic Games, had promised to be a wonderful celebration of local sport; however, overall the week was very successful in raising a lot of money for local charities – and, we hope, in giving you some enjoyment! We shall look forward to making donations to worthy causes in due course.
A special thank you to all those who took part in the carnival procession, and indeed to those who may have been inconvenienced by it. A great deal of thought and hard work had gone into the floats and walking groups — there was so much colour, and in the warm sunshine, a real sense of community spirit.
We are very grateful to all those who sponsored our events and indeed to all of you for your generosity; in terms of the buckets alone, the collection raised £2,400, nearly all in 1p and 2p coins!
Finally, could I thank my colleagues in the Lions, who worked tirelessly to support such a wide range of activities during the week.
If you have any thoughts about the theme for next year's carnival, please let us know by writing to me c/o the Union Inn, King Street, Tavistock PL19 0DS or by e-mail to [email protected]">[email protected]
