THROUGH the medium of your letters page I would like to thank the traders in Tavistock Pannier Market and members of the public for their acknowledgement of my passing.
The cards, handshakes and gifts, both collective and individual, made my last week unbelievable from Saturday March 30 to Saturday April 6.
It is not very often I am short of a response, but I certainly have been particularly on Saturday March 30, with the traders' presentation.
I am to be leaving at a time when the market is vibrant and successful compared to many others around, both near and far. And you do not have to wonder why for long, with an excellent crowd of traders who show integrity, professionalism and skills, some of which I would 'die for'.
The smile, the friendly chat, the putting oneself about to satisfy a customer, help to make Tavistock Market 'The Best'.
During my 15 years we have gone from very little, freezing cold, and that includes the summers, poorly lit to today, when horticultural traders can sell tropical plants. Perhaps that's where Eden got their idea.
To close, at times it has not been an easy journey for me managing the market, but the appreciation shown makes it all worthwhile.
I trust that you will look after my successor Mr Brady as well as you have me.
My best wishes and success to you all.
Keith Spiers
