ON behalf of the residents of North Tawton I would like to thank the committee which organised the North Tawton Community Games and Culture Week to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic Games.

There are too many individuals and organisations to mention in this letter who put so much effort into arranging the celebrations throughout the whole of last week.

They put together a programme which allowed all age groups to participate, from pre-school to the over 70s. With the exception of the bowls afternoon that had to be cancelled because of the weather, all events were very well supported.

The whole week was free with the exception of refreshments and the film showings, due to the generous donations from local businesses, the Durrant Trust, Devon County Council and private sponsorship.

Many have said it was the best thing that has happened in the town for several years and asked if it will be repeated. That will be up to the committee, but if you think you could help in the future, contact one of the organisers.

Remember the Midsummer Festival (from July 23) that the Town Hall Committee organises each year to help raise funds for the new kitchen. Please also support this as well as you attended last week's events.

Cllr Nick Morgan
