University 5

Okehampton Argyle 2

OKEHAMPTON continued their dismal run. The students have a fit, young side and were always in control.

They took the lead in the 13th minutes with a forward thumping the ball past a helpless Richard Bailey.

Argyle counter-attacked with flowing moves, and from one in the 18th minute they equalised. Mark Burdus, playing his last game before globe-trotting, crossed from the left and Adam Mortimer towered above a defender at the near post to glance a header into the opposite corner of the net.

University regained the lead eight minutes before the interval when they had the luck of a marginal offside decision and Saul Bloxham slid the ball past Bailey.

The second period continued with University dominant and Argyle had to endure long periods of pressure. During this and with the Okehampton defence at sixes and sevens they scored a further three goals.

During the last 15 minutes Okehampton got back into the game more as University eased off. Ian Gill saw a diving header hit the bar. Neil Agnew then gave the scoreline some respectability when he rifled home following unselfish work by Nic Pollard.

One plus was the introduction of Lee Gilbert making his first team debut and acquitting himself well in a difficult match.

Team: Bailey, Vernon N, Gill K, Ausden, Drew N, Cann, Vernon M, Agnew, Burdus, Gill I, Mortimer. Subs: Pollard, Gilbert.

This week sees Okehampton with an early chance to avenge this defeat as they entertain University at Simmons Park, kick-off 2.30pm.
