Plymouth Mount Wise v Yelverton Typhoons
YELVERTON batted first and after an opening partnership of 26, they lost B Pearson. However D Ackford and number three J Douie batted through the remainder of the innings for scores of 77 not out and 20 not out respectively in Yelverton's final score of 120–1 off their 20 overs.
Ackford and D Cooper opened the bowling for Yelverton, but no early wickets came. The introduction of W Johnson (4-0-17-1) immediately produced a breakthrough, Johnson taking a wicket with his first delivery with the score on 27. M Adams also bowled well in his four over spell for 15 runs to pick up two wickets.
Mount Wise were on 46-3 with opener J Cummings holding the innings together. Despite losing two more wickets, they climbed and they needed 16 off two overs. J Douie picked up the wicket of B Couldwell, well caught by C Dawe at cover and the final over arrived with 10 still required.
However, D Cooper held his nerve and dismissed Cummings for 49 left Mount Wise short on 117 – 8. An entertaining game and a narrow victory for the Typhoons by three runs.
Yelverton Typhoons U13s v Tavistock U13s
YELVERTON won the toss and asked Tavistock to bat first. J Dent struck first taking the wicket of D Hamill for a duck.
D Ackford chipped in with a wicket at the other end to leave Tavistock on 10-2. N. Turnock was run-out courtesy of a direct hit from fielder of the match G Alderton but Tavistock skipper D Milligan showed a positive intent and compiled 35, and in partnership with N Bennett (17) put on 34 for the fourth wicket before Bennett was caught and bowled by W Johnson.
Tavistock totalled 104 -6 off their 20 overs with Johnson the best bowler for Yelverton with 2-20.
D Ackford and W Johnson opened the batting for Yelverton and both were in a positive mood and quickly took the score along to 89 off the first 10 overs before Johnson was caught & bowled by Bennett for a well played 33. J Douie came and went without troubling the scorers, but D Rogers (2 no) and Ackford (53 no) saw Yelverton home on 108-2 off 13.1 overs. Yelverton won by 8 wickets.
