A GRAND slam of Saturday morning tennis action is coming to Okehampton, courtesy of the Okehampton and District Tennis Club, which begins ten weeks of tennis sessions for aspiring youngster this weekend (Saturday, January 17).

During the Easter term the club organises Saturday morning junior tennis coaching in Okehampton College sports hall. For the younger players indoor tennis played with a soft ball is ideal for learning and improving basic ball and racquet skills.

Juniors will have the opportunity, if they wish, to work towards certificates of achievement. These awards are sponsored by club captain Paul Chastey.

Older children have the opportunity to develop their skills using hard tennis balls and play competitive matches.

Club members give their time free of charge and equipment is provided by the club. There is therefore a charge for the ten week sessions, payable in advance.

Alternatively, youngsters can attend on a weekly basis provided there are sufficient places available.

The sessions run on the following dates: January 17, 24, 31; February 7, 14, 28 and March 6, 13, 20, 27. Beginners and younger juniors will play between 10am-11am, more experienced players and 8-11-year-olds will take to the courts between 11am-12pm.

If you require further information, or wish to book in advance contact the tennis club chairman David Carter on 01837 840521. Mr Carter says last year?s sessions were fully booked and to avoid disappointment it is best to book early.
