TIME is the theme of North Tawton Primary School's millennium project which will be officially opened on July 15.
Over the past few weeks teams of parents, children and friends have been constructing a Millennium Garden/Amphitheatre in the school grounds the centrepiece of which is a 'human sundial.'
Children standing on the appropriate month section of a central slab will cast a shadow onto a dial made out of mosaic tiles — thereby telling the time of the day.
The stage of the Amphitheatre uses the natural slopes of the school grounds and will be used to play on and perform plays. It will be further enhanced by the introduction of plants.
At 2pm on July 15 each class from the school will perform a series of short presentations consisting of drama, dancing and music.
Prior to this will be a picnic for the town and all residents are welcome to join in and it will be followed by a summer fete from 1pm to 5pm.
The school has also been given an oak tree by the Navy to include in its millennium garden.
