Teignmouth 6
Okehampton Columbines 4
IN a thrilling end-to-end game there was good hockey played by both sides.
Teignmouth scored before Okehampton defence had got into the rhythm of their game.
But Okehampton were moving the ball well down the right with skilful interplay between Alex Collins and Jo Stephens.
From one of these forward runs the ball was slipped inside to Sue Stanbury who played a fine pass to centre forward Jo Moppett. She found herself in space and struck well to equalise.
Okehampton took the lead when the ball was saved from a corner by the goalkeeper but rebounded off her pads for Stanbury to rifle home.
But there was plenty for the Columbines' defence to do as Teignmouth were quick and passed well in the circle. Sharon Stephens was busy in goal and Carol Taylor and Elaine Morgan tackled tirelessly to cut down Teignmouth's chances.
Okehampton found themselves being pushed back further. It looked like it was all over when they went 5-2 down, but there was great resilience in their play, with Netty Collett pushing up in the centre, it was Teignmouth's turn to defend deeply.
Two goals in quick succession from Moppett — the latter from a fine move by Stephens down the right wing — meant the game was not over.
Columbines threw everything at Teignmouth but they held firm and Okehampton were caught on the break in the remaining few minutes.
