FOUR ? was the cry of a team of Okehampton golfers who recently took on the challenge of playing four rounds in a single day around the undulating terrain of Okehampton Golf Course.

The Okehampton trio of Jon Mansell, Kevin Pedrick and Duncan File teed off at 7am on Sunday, June 27 and completed the 72-hole, 22-mile marathon at 8.15pm. Their sporting efforts were in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

?It was tiring,? said postman Jon, ?but we only really felt it hit us when we sat down at the end. By then we were in the bar so we didn?t care.

?The strange thing was, our golf improved as we got more tired. The last round we all played really well. We had 29 birdies between us with the most notable achievement being Kevin, who was playing stableford format, scoring on every one of the 72 holes, an amazing achievement,? added Jon.

So far the group has raised £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Relief, with still more money coming in. It is not to late to pledge money, if anyone can still help, they can contact Jon on 01837 840478.

The three men wished to thank everyone who had supported them, including the many generous local businesses and organisations.
