HORRABRIDGE Youth Club is planning an exciting moorland challenge in order to raise much needed funds.

It has been named 'The Dartmoor Youth Club Challenge' and was the idea of local policemen.

The police have identified the need in both Horrabridge and Princetown, and realise that in order to continue to provide youngsters with a space to meet and have access to activities, funds need to be raised for the local youth clubs.

On the weekend of September 26 and 27 teams from Horrabridge and Princetown youth clubs will take part in a fun and adventurous challenge across the moor.

The teams will leave their own youth clubs and walk the same route to the opposing youth club.

Along the way the teams will tackle various mental and physical challenges set by the fire service, Dartmoor National Parks, Dartmoor Rescue and the police. On arrival at the opposite club the parents will cater for and entertain the children from the other village.

They will spend the night at each other's youth clubs and walk back the next day.

The event will be judged on time, points gained at the challenges and for the best catered club.

Charlotte Carpenter, youth worker for Horrabridge Youth Club, said: 'There has been a fantastic enthusiasm for the walk from the young people and we look set to be entering three teams of ten, which is fantastic.

'Obviously the whole idea of the walk is to raise funds and we are really hoping that people will get on side and support the club.'

Charlotte added that the clubs are looking for sponsors from any local residents or businesses.

To sponsor or give a donation call Charlotte on 07837610274.

Charlotte added: 'It would be fantastic if the village supported this event and help to encourage the young people.'
