A TEAM of people, which includes the former manager of the award-winning Oasis Centre in Gunnislake, Jane Uglow, has been appointed to work up detailed proposals for the £2.8 Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project. Jane has joined project manager Andy Robinson and education and interpretation officer Lucia Crothall on the next ten-month phase of the project being led by Cornwall County Council and Caradon District Council. The scheme seeks to conserve mining and prehistoric sites, protect wildlife, retain local distinctiveness and involve local residents in many aspects of their local heritage. Over the next few months suggestions will be sought from farmers and local people across the area, for small scale conservation works to landscape and wildlife features such as Cornish hedges, woodlands and prehistoric sites and ideas developed of how people can discover and enjoy their local heritage. The Caradon Hill area has one of the greatest concentrations of scheduled monuments in the country and is part of the World Heritage Mining Landscape of Cornwall and West Devon.
