THE Mount House senior play was a highly entertaining production that involved all the senior pupils, either on stage or behind the scenes, and brought out some excellent comic performances from several pupils. Produced by head of English Jon Hammond, the play took its title 'Our Finest Hour', from Winston Churchill's famous wartime speech. It told the story of the children's fight to rid the world of teachers, who, not content with running the school, had taken over the village on their way to achieving world domination. The opening scene was set in France at Café Réné, where the proprietor narrates the story. The rivalry between the boys, backed by Réné, and the girls, led by the school housekeeper, threatens to derail the scheme. Many other familiar stage and screen characters make cameo appearances, including David Brent, Captain Mainwaring, Mr Chips and Vicki Pollard, before the teachers' attempt to curry favour with the inspectors predictably fails, and they make a hasty retreat.
