Totnes and Dartington Ladies 1
Tavistock Community FC Ladies 3
THIS match was to decide who went top with Totnes and Dart ahead by two points while the away team were not helped with only 12 players available.
Totnes and Dart passed the ball well and had some fast strikers but did not reckon on the brick wall of Tavistock's defence. Glasspoole, Shaw, Cox and Maloney were solid and when the home side did penetrate Stock was on form.
Weeks and Hammond up front had chances but strong defending held Tavistock at bay. Kelly and Coker battled in midfield and Jones and new signing Carly Bammons started to attack the defenders down both wings. It was Totnes and Dart who scored first when a hard hit ball, which Stock had covered, hit Shaw on the head and rebounded in.
Tavistock came out fighting in the second half and through positive belief and a never say die attitude started piling on the pressure.
Ali Hurley broke through the midfield and passed out to Bammons who slid the ball over for Hurley to place into the front of Weeks whose shot left the keeper no chance.
Tavistock struck again with another great run from Bammons, who slotted over to Glasspoole for a cracking top left corner shot, scoring her debut goal for the team.
Jones and Maloney chased down and blocked constantly. A free kick was just over the bar but when Kelly returned to play after injury player of the match Donna Weeks passed the ball for her to slam in a long range shot and finish the game off.
Tavistock kept the pressure up and the team fought as one, getting first to the ball, chasing down and constantly tackling. A fantastic all round performance for the ladies who now realise the benefit of a large squad.
n The ladies are at home against Activate on Sunday at 3pm.
