Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 4 east
Bodmin Town 2
Mary Tavy 1
SO much can change in a few weeks as Mary Tavy have dipped in form at the worst possible time - the title seemed in their grasp with their terrific run looking certain to take them into Duchy 3.
They took 31 points from a possible 36 away from home but with two defeats and a draw from the last three matches they threw the lead away and had a fight on their hands to claim runners-up spot from a team they comfortably defeated twice this season.
Saturday's game was marred by constant stoppages as the ball was consistently hoofed into the nearest field at every opportunity by the home team who struggled to provide matchballs.
The referee was constantly stopping his watch as replacement balls appeared, only to be too hard or almost flat. This greatly affected the flow of the game and tempers flared as Tavy struggled to settle into any rhythm. This worked to Bodmin's advantage and they took the lead midway into the first half. But James Coole pulled the tie level again to make it all-square for the second half.
Bodmin dealt with the constant pressure and with a draw looming scored the winner on the break with an unfortunate deflection.
With three games remaining Tavy need four points to secure second spot.
Lamerton 1
Tideford 3
LAMERTON concluded their home fixtures with an excellent match against championship-chasing Tideford.
The home side began brightly with Will Cann hitting the post and Sean Cann having a goal disallowed before Ian Taylor put the visitors ahead against the run of play. Cann equalised before half time, taking advantage of a defensive mix up.
The second half saw Lamerton pile on the pressure, but again they conceded a simple goal when Gary Bridgeman headed in from a corner.
Lamerton came close on several occasions with Andy Williams just wide from two free kicks from the edge of the area.
The visitors scored a third late on to produce a scoreline that flattered them.
Despite the result it was a good Lamerton performance with Simon Breyley dominant in defence and Sean Cann dangerous up front.
