FOR the third year in a row the Tavy 7, Tavistock Athletic Club?s autumn road race, has sold out with more than two weeks to go. Taking place on Sunday, November 12, this year?s race is bigger and better than ever say organisers. The race limit has been increased to 700 runners, such is the demand for places. The club could have sold many more and has had to turn away disappointed applicants who put their forms in too late. This year, proceeds from the event are going into the club?s track fund as they are attempting to raise at least £100, 000 towards the project to bring an athletics track to Tavistock College. This year?s race is being sponsored by estate agents Mansbridge and Balment who themselves have put in a squad of runners. Director Martin Gibbs and his staff from the company are in secret training over the past few weeks. Tavistock Athletic Club also welcome new sponsors for 2006, Abbey Garden Machinery and The Rosemont B&B from Yelverton. Brooks, the running shoe and apparel company, are once again sponsoring the event. All finishers in the main race receive a Brooks technical t-shirt and anyone who can break the course record stands to win a pair of Brooks running shoes for their trouble! The main race starts at noon on Whitchurch Down. At 12.05pm there is a Fun Run of about 1.5 miles across the Down. Entries for this cost £2 and can only be made on the day. There is no limit on entries for this event. Those interested should report to race headquarters at Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket Club to register. Anyone coming to the event, whether to run or support loved ones, should be aware that if they are travelling by car they should avoid Whitchurch village, in particular the stretch from the post office up to the church. It is better to approach from the golf club and park in the designated places which will be marshalled by officials from the club. Parking has to be controlled so if you can avoid bringing the car or share with others, then so much the better. Details about the Tavy 7 are on the website ? http://www.tavy7.com">www.tavy7.com.
