Carlsberg South West Peninsula Premier Tavistock 5 Cullompton Rangers 1 WITH three games in a week Tavistock's resources were stretched to the limit with injuries and suspensions taking a heavy toll. To take maximum points from the fixtures is a credit to the players battling qualities a filip for the season's finale. The first game in the trilogy was a trip to Blaise Park to play St Blazey. In truth this game never rose above the mediocre with neither side able to find much quality. Blazey are a pale shadow of the championship winning side of recent years but in an open game they tested the resiliance of a makeshift Lambs team. In part Tavistock had Andy Meeds to thank for keeping a clean sheet with a string of excellent saves. At the other end the Lambs were wasteful with the opportunities that came their way but a superb 20 yard angled drive on the hour from Glyn Hobbs secured the points with a 1-0 victory. On the Tuesday Tavistock entertained Buckland at Langsford Park. Once more the game was lacking in quality. The first half was dominated by the home team but there was a lethargy about their play and they were fortunate to be level at halftime thanks to a penalty converted by Will Stringer. As the game wore on the game got scrappier and it was no surprise when Buckland took the lead. Sensing an upset the visitors fought to hang on to the points but with the clock running down the Lambs scored twice in quick succession for a 3-2 win and to take all the points. On Saturday the Lambs were back at Langsford Park for the visit of Cullompton who are propping up the premier division. Tavistock struck early when a speculative Glyn Hobbs volley found its way into the net. Alas, instead of the floodgates opening the Lambs backed off and sloppy play in the middle of the park allowed Cullompton to draw level with a crisp finish across a helpless Andy Meeds. Tavistock regained the ascendancy when a corner from Lee Bevan was helped into the net by the keeper. Tavistock increased their lead when Lee Coxon's free kick went straight through the wall which resembled the Red Sea in biblical times. The second period saw Tavistock dominate possession and a tiring Cullompton resorting to increasingly crude challenges in their attempts to stop Glyn Hobbs who was tormentor in chief. The Lambs squandered numerous opportunities until Lee Coxon sweetly fired home from 25 yards. With time running out there was still time for Glyn Hobbs to round off the scoring showing all his qualities as he out muscled a couple of defenders, walked around two more before nonchalantly flicking the ball into the net. With the season now entering its final weeks Tavistock are building up to the League Cup Final against Bodmin Town. Having won five games on the bounce there is cause for optimism and with players returning they hope to finish the season with a flourish.
