Tavistock RFC U15s 17
Teignmouth U15s 17
TAVISTOCK U15s entertained a depleted Teignmouth team, where an early agreement to play 14 a side was established.
Teignmouth, having convincingly beaten Tavistock at last season's Devon Plate final, opened the scoring with two early tries which stung the home side into action. Tavistock were resilient in defence and introduced Monty Burdfield to counter a fast visiting back line and the response was immediate as Burdfield broke through, following good forward play, to open Tavistock's account.
This was quickly followed by the tenacious efforts of Richie Coker, whose explosive speed was once again demonstrated on the left wing to run in a solo try to equal the score.
Swirling conditions made kicking difficult for both sides and they went into the break drawing 10-10.
Following a good first half performance at full back, Jack Glover was replaced by David Lunn in an attempt to increase the kicking capability against an increasing wind. Ed Longden moving to stand off and Zak Cinnamond coming into the pack provided instance success with a dominant display by the forwards, releasing Burdfield to score his second try, which was successfully converted by Ed Longden.
Teignmouth continued to pressure and only a resilient display by the Tavistock pack held them at bay, until the final 10 minutes when a well worked move by the backs allowed Teignmouth to score their third try and draw level with a well taken conversion. An outstanding defensive performance by Tavistock ensured no further score, resulting in a creditable 17-17 draw.
Tavistock players of the match were given to Joe Thompson for his tackling and overall defensive skills and also to Jack Glover for an excellent first half performance.
l On behalf of the team Andy Parkin wished everyone a happy Christmas and a successful New Year.
l On Sunday, January 4, Tavistock U15s are at home to Liskeard.
