THE finals of The Bill Fogerty Trophy and The Pretoria Handicap Cup in the Okehampton and district table tennis league were completed this week. The Bill Fogerty trophy was between Tavistock A and Okehampton A. Tavistock raced into a 3-0 lead with John Squire doing well to take Roger Bowkett to a third leg decider, just losing out 20-22, 21- 18, 21-14. In the next game Tony Howick won the only game for Okehampton beating Peter Hicks in straight sets 21-9, 21-15. Tavistock then stepped up a gear winning the next five games for a convincing 8-1 win, and capturing the trophy for the fifth time in a row. Teams: Tavistock A (Fred Phillips, Peter Hicks and Roger Bowket). Okehampton A (Tony Howick, Frank Cockburn and John Squire). The Pretoria Handicap cup final was played between Okehampton B and Moretonhampstead. In the first doubles Maureen Venton and Ann Creamer beat Ken and Richard Underhill to go 1-0 ahead. Maureen then beat Peter Denman — a good result as she only had two points advantage — to make it 2-0 to Okehampton B. In the next Ken Underhill pulled one back for Moreton in a close match Ken to beat John Howick 21-19, 21-19. The second doubles went to Okehampton's John Howick and Ann Creamer beating Peter Denman and Richard Underhill to make it 3-1. Ann beat Richard in the next singles. Then John Howick did well to beat Peter Denman 19-21, 21-16, 21-9. In the next Maureen beat Ken 21-23, 21-12, 21-11 to win the Cup for Okehampton B 6-1 Teams: Okehampton B (Maureen Venton, Ann Creamer and John Howick). Moretonhampstead (Ken Underhill, Peter Denman and Richard Underhill) The closed championship for 2007/2008 will be played shortly.
