Tavistock v Clyst St George

A FINE day on Saturday at the Ring saw Tavistock 1st XI continue their good run of form in the league.

After winning the toss skipper Dave Manning chose to attack and open with the young pairing of Marjon?s boy John Doel and South African Orin Roesstorff.

With Roesstorff bowling fast and straight he managed to nick out both of Clyst St George?s openers. Doel kept it tight at the other end.

After 20 overs Clyst found themselves on 63 for 2 and in need of a solid partnership. Clyst skipper Chris Cook provided his team with a fine knock of 105 not out.

Clyst battled their way to 177 for 9 at the end of their 46 overs.

Roesstorff was the star of a reasonable fielding performance by Tavistock, ending with figures of 13-2-50-5. This five wicket haul came following the dismissal of T Read as he ripped out the middle order for 7 runs.

Tavistock set about the run race but lost J McGahey for two runs, but Steve Luffman kept the scoreboard ticking with regular destructive striking of the bad ball.

Arnie Searle joined Luffman, until he was out for a good knock of 42, bringing Dave Manning to the crease.

Continuing his recent purple patch of form Manning batted superbly to win the game with a tremendous total of 71 not out off 59 balls. His innings saw seven fours and five sixes dispatched into the ferns for opposing players to search for.

Searle accompanied Dave right to the end with a sensible knock of 46 not out.

Tavistock reached the required total with 11 overs to spare, providing a valuable win and 19 points, taking them to third in the division.
