ON Sunday many Tavistock athletics club members competed in the Totnes 10K. It was perfect conditions and Tavistock were out in their numbers with over 20 runners from the club. The children?s fun run started off the morning?s events and Tavistock?s own Nick Champion won the fun with quite a large margin. The senior 10k race started at 11am and Tavistock were keen to do well in all areas. First runner back from the club in 8th position overall was Adam Holland in a great time of 37mins 52 seconds. The next home for Tavistock were two runners making their debut performance in this race ? Chris Champion romped home in 13th position with a time of 38mins 46secs and Tony Symons in 22nd position with 40mins 33 seconds. Tony was also 2nd in the Male 40 category. Fiona Dunn was the first lady back from the club and fifth lady overall adding yet another trophy to her collection. Fiona finished 73rd with a time of 45mins 15secs beating her time from last year. Other good performances came from Charlie Lloyd 42mins 29secs and Nicole Heryet with 49mins 58secs beating her time for last year. Marion Playle ran well and looked comfortable and in control when crossing the finishing line. A good performance came from Steve John 59mins 51 secs and Karole Champion who ran a time of 1hr13mins 11secs. A solid run from Shenda Johns gave her a time of 1hr 8mins and 35secs. The men came 2nd in the team prizes with Adam Holland, Chris Champion, Tony Symons and Charlie Lloyd making up that 2nd place team. It was also the weekend of the South Of England Vets Track and Field Championships held at Exeter arena. Tavistock athletics had three members taking part, Allan Herdman, Steve Groombridge and Richard Drage. Allan took part in the 400m and finished 2nd overall and won his age category V50. He ran a good time of 58:57seconds. Steve and Richard raced in the 1500m on Saturday. Richard finished 2nd overall and 1st in his age category, V45 and Steve finished 5th overall and 2nd in his age category V50.
