Tavistock 46

Bude 8

TAVISTOCK put in by far their best performance of the season beating their Cornish visitors by six tries to one at Sandy Park last Saturday.

Coach Lee Webber was pleased with the result after the game but he was keen to stress that it was not just the win but how the team had played that was important. Everything came together and the side did not ease up when in front. There was some good support play and players were happy offloading and putting the support runner in space. Hard work was put in among the pack with front row forwards Adrian Baker and Rupert Freestone and flanker Will Brown, returning to the side after a lengthy injury absence, always leading by example.

Tavistock took the lead early on with a penalty kicked by Richard West. Bude hit right back and Levent Bulut landed a penalty when Tavistock were penalised directly in front of their own posts.

After sustained pressure applied by the forwards, Tavistock scored a try via debutant number eight Ed Masloveckas. He then scored his second before half time when a superb running line led to a Richard West pass putting him in unopposed. West converted both tries and kicked a penalty goal to give Tavistock a 20-3 half time lead.

The first score of the second half came when a kick and chase allowed Richard West to touchdown in the corner. Tavistock kept up the pressure and the next try came when flanker James O'Gallagher supported winger Tom Whalley taking a well timed pass to run in from 30 metres.

Full back Matt Witcher capped a fine game when his well timed run cut an enormous hole in the Bude defence and he crossed close to the posts.

Bude did hit back with less than 15 minutes remaining when their rolling maul saw replacement prop Barry Sobey claim a try. Tavistock were not to be denied and inside the last five minutes Ben Neal scored a try in the left hand corner. Richard West converted to secure an emphatic victory.
