TAVISTOCK Primary School is the first primary school in the borough of West Devon to launch a get fit initiative for parents.

The school has joined forces with Tavy Joggers to set up a ‘Couch to 5K’ program. Meeting at the school gates at 9am on Wednesday mornings, the group is led by experienced, qualified coaches to help them reach the goal of running 5km in a few weeks time.

School head Lynnette Selbie said: ‘We are delighted to launch this new idea with the help of Tavy Joggers and Active Devon. If we can help parents get a little fitter it will not only benefit the parents but of course, encourage the children too. Everyone wins in this scheme.’

Tavy Joggers’ lead coach Sheila Houghton said: ‘With the school ideally located next to Tavistock Meadows and its enthusiastic, supportive staff, we are sure we can get parents running, having fun and perhaps losing a little weight too. Those who attended the first session did really well and all went away with smiles on their faces.’
