TAVISTOCK postmen will be swapping their bags for boots in a charity football match in memory of a local postie who died in a tragic car accident last month.

The team from Tavistock Royal Mail will be taking on players of Gunnislake FC in the match on Sunday afternoon, in honour of postman Andrew Payne, who used to play for the Gunnislake side.

Football friends and colleagues of Andrew have organised the match to raise money for SCARD — a charity that provides practical and emotional support for people who have lost a loved one or have been seriously injured in a road incident.

All players will be paying £5 to play, which will be matched by Royal Mail and donated to the charity as well as profits made from a raffle and collections made on the day.

The match will be attended by Andrew’s favourite footballer, former Plymouth Argyle player Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who will be giving a signed shirt to Andrew’s family and will present the winner’s trophy following the match.

The match will take place at Tavistock College, on the pitch within the running track, with kick off at 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
