Tavistock Ladies 1

Wooton Bassett 0

TAVISTOCK were playing the bottom of the league table side, so were hoping for a home victory and the three points.

However, it was not the best game that Tavistock have played and their forwards found it extremely difficult to find the back of the net, mainly due to a very good opposition goalkeeper.

Town's Claire Bruna had a good game and worked really hard on the right wing, making some good crosses into the Bassett's 'D'.

Laura Stapleton had a good game in midfield and linked well with the running play of Nikki Woodroffe and Laura Armstrong.

Susannah Boulle and Sarah Barratt kept strong on the left and prevented any major attack from happening on that side of the pitch.

Fiona Dunn and Fran Murphy linked well in defence and Murphy made some good clean tackles on the ball. Emma White was as busy as ever in midfield and with Chloe Bassett having the pace in her legs it was not long before the opposition realised that they could not catch her when she had a run with the ball. Not long after Woodroffe scored the only goal of the match and took Tavistock into the lead.

The second half was very similar to the first in the fact that the goal scoring opportunities were abundant but the team could not capitalise on them.

THE game opened with both teams looking to gain early possession of the ball.

Within minutes of the start Tavistock had a break and took advantage; a ball from the midfield was struck into the attacking 'D' and Jo Gaspar got her stick on the end of it and scored the first goal.

This put Tavistock in a strong and dominant position and the ball was switched neatly around the pitch.

A break from the opposition allowed them to get through the defence of Tavistock and equalise the score line.

The home ladies knew they had to work harder and Becky Lamb was strong in driving the ball up the pitch. Chloe Bassett worked well in defence and with Lisa Butler through the centre of defence it was difficult for the opposition to penetrate the 'D' again.

Fiona Dunn won a tackle and started to drive the ball up the pitch, who passed it to Robynne Honey who made a lovely cross into the 'D' for Gaspar to put away neatly.

At half-time Tavistock went in 2-1 up. No more goals were scored in the second half but Tavistock were definitely the dominant team. This now brings Tavistock out of the relegation zone since December.

• This week Tavistock ladies are at home at Kelly at 11am against Plymouth and Marjons, who are top of the league.
