Devon Colts Cup, quarter-final

Brixham Colts 20

Tavistock Colts 7

BRIXHAM started strongly, using their superior weight to drive into the Tavistock half, winning a penalty which was converted.

Again Brixham stormed forward, and despite valiant defence, scored a try wide out.

Tavistock rallied with Adam James and Joe Lane getting in among their forwards to turn the ball. Josh Sutton spun it out wide where Bryn John provided a cutting edge and Tavistock advanced.

A quick heel from Ben Bassett enabled Duncan Law to break through the centre. The ball was recycled by Richard Lloyd to Paul Harwood who left the defence in tatters as he cruised in under the posts. Josh Sutton converted.

Brixham continued to hammer in using their forwards, but Tavistock tackled like demons. Seb Roberts set off on a darting run, only to be tackled inches short.

The second half started well. Stuart Blake followed up the kick-off, won the ball for Tavistock, recycled to the left where Mark Ewings made good ground. A cross-field kick was taken on by Joe Lane. He was held up and Brixham cleared.

Brixham started to get the upper hand. Their forwards retained the ball and driving into the Tavistock half, Louis Addaway stole the ball and the pressure was relieved.

Adam James had to leave the field and Brixham took full advantage, scoring in the corner.

Again Brixham came storming back. A great tackle from John Pain prevented the score and Tavistock rallied with Simon Beard making repeated runs at the heart of the Brixham defence. But the weight of Brixham was too much and they scored another try late in the game.

Man of the match: Adam James.
