Tavistock Mens? Firsts 3 Ottery Crickets 0 AFTER a shaky start to the season Tavistock men?s hockey team needed to get a win under their belts to settle the nerves of a newly formed side. From the off Tavistock were looking the more dangerous side, creating chances within the D but not having the finishing touches to put the ball in the back of the net. After numerous short corners that were not being capitalised on Tavistock made a breakthrough with Honey slotting the ball into the back of the net through a rebound off the keeper?s pads to put the home side into the lead. This first goal then lifted the spirits of Tavistock who then created a superb team made goal through Heard who selflessly slipped the ball square to Jeffery, who then tapped the ball reverse side past the keeper increasing Tavistock?s lead. The second half saw a pumped up Ottery side who wanted to get themselves back into the game. However, with the return of Lethbridge and Manley at the back the Tavistock defence were back to full strength and dealing with the threat of the Ottery front line. Man of the match Bradley in goal also made some excellent saves to keep the away side from scoring. But from the second half pressure that Ottery were giving, Tavistock made another breakthrough with a third goal from Lethbridge with a great strike from the top of the D to seal the win for Tavistock. l Next week Tavistock men are away to the University of Plymouth.
