THE Lions’ Club of Tavistock has kicked off its search for a young lady to wear the glittering tiara and wave a royal hand at this year’s spectacular Tavistock Carnival.
Now is the chance for three lucky youngsters to win the opportunity to step up to the vacant throne as the new carnival princess and attendants.
All young ladies who apply, using the form on this page, must be between the ages of seven and 11 on July 1, 2017 and live within the PL19 and PL20 postcode districts.
The competition is sponsored by the Tavistock Times Gazette and Lawsons of Tavistock and the club is delighted with the continued support from both companies.
The judging will take place at the Tavy Club in King Street, Tavistock on Wednesday, May 24, at 6pm with the official crowning during ‘Funday in the Meadows’ on Sunday, July 9 at 3pm.
The carnival princess and attendants will lead the carnival procession through the streets of Tavistock on Saturday, July 15, so the lucky winners must be available for these dates.
A spokesperson for Tavistock Lions’ Club said: ‘Tavistock’s ever popular carnival week, which the Lions’ Club has been organising for many years for and on behalf of the local community, starts on Friday, July 7, with an action-packed week of events for all the family — starting of with a ceilidh in the town hall and culminating in the procession on Saturday, July 15.
‘The theme for this year is Myths, Heritage and Legends and an entry form will be published in this paper in early June but now is the time for everyone to get their thinking caps on.
‘With regards to transport in the procession, the Lions are starting to receive enquiries from new organisations wishing to take part and which are looking for anyone who can assist with a lorry or any form of vehicle.’
Any individual or company that may be able to assist with a vehicle is asked to contact procession organiser John Dawson on [email protected] as the club is keen to have as many people involved in the procession as possible.
