TAVISTOCK Cadet Sergeant Upha Barclay was presented with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award badge on her final night as an air cadet.

The presentation was made by Squadron Leader Phil Newcombe, south west regional Duke of Edinburgh officer for the RAF Air Cadets. Upha took part in an expedition to the Yorkshire Dales, volunteered at 2312 Squadron Air Cadets, completed a BTEC in leadership for her skill and was regularly in the gym for the physical section of the award.

The residential part of her award was spent at Liverpool Science Park learning about biological, clinical medical research.

In the future Upha hopes to pursue a career in a branch of medicine.

Upha will be invited to attend St James’ Palace later this year for the presentation of her certificate.
