Tavistock U11s 68

Okehampton U11s 0

OKEHAMPTON could only muster a squad of seven for this fixture compared with 17 for the home side.

The first half saw Josh Stephens, Rufus Gould, Charlie Hubbard, Elliott Northmore and Daniel Oner in Okehampton colours.

Tavistock started strongly, keeping the ball in the forwards and it was not long before prop Joe Hair opened the scoring.

Okehampton?s tackling let them down, allowing Elliot Hoyte to run straight through to score from the restart.

Jack Morgan and Josh Leeson combined well to make good ground with Hoyte finishing for his second.

Tavistock continued heaping on the pressure with a five-yard scrum resulting in scrum half Rhys Dunford darting over for Tavistock?s fourth.

Before the end of the half, a twisting run from Philip Snell split the visitors? defence and the lay-off to Jack Haigh increased the score.

During the break the five Tavistock away players swapped with the home side scorers. Hoyte, Dunford, Joe Hair, Jack Haigh and Chris Bringle joined the ranks of the opposition.

But the reorganised Tavistock squad continued to dominate. A perfectly timed pass from Cameron Hogg sent Mark Friend up the line to score in the corner.

The seventh came from a storming Josh Leeson breakaway and the eighth from a cleanly won lineout giving centre Philip Snell quick ball. It was shortly followed by Snell?s second with his signature run.

Gould provided the start of a move that Elliott Northmore continued to set up space for Jack Morgan to finish off to join the scorers.

Another strong run from Friend and a timely discharge to prop George Harold ended the scoring where it started in the forwards.

The return of Josh Stephens from the opposition added 12 points with his six for six conversations in the second half.

OKEHAMPTON set the pace from the start with the forwards of Francis, Courtier and White dominating scrums, lineouts, rucks and mauls well, giving the backs the chances to run at Tavistock.

Matthew Johns managed to sneak over after one of his darting moves, splitting the opponents? backs, and with the forwards still working well, Thomas White also went over for a try, making the half-time score 10-0.

In the second half with the forwards still controlling the game the backs of Matthew Johns, Tom Fogerty and Sam Ewen began to run at Tavistock and supported well by Henry Cooper, Graham Bennie and new boy Sam Vincent, all passing well and making decent breaks.

But Tavistock tackled well and kept them at bay. The forwards? strength kept the pressure on and with good driving through the middle, things opened up, allowing Thomas White, Buster Francis and Chris Courtier all to score making it a good day?s work by Okehampton.

TAVISTOCK looked as if they thought they were in for an easy match against a side they had beaten earlier in the season.

Okehampton soon proved they were in for a tough physical match in which the Tavistock forwards only managed to match Okehampton in patches.

However, Tavistock have a formidable back line and Rhys Davis shone with three tries and an assist, also saving a certain try by holding up the Okehampton pack virtually single handedly on the try-line.

Frasier Bayliss scored first for Tavistock with a pacey run down the right wing.

Okehampton replied immediately, following good rucking by their forwards. Davis then scored twice, just before and just after the break, to put Tavistock two scores up.

Okehampton pulled one back with a fine run to the corner, then were unlucky not to equalise, grounding the ball just short of the tryline.

Scrum half Jamie Stephens added the fourth try for Tavistock with great spoiling work from an Okehampton scrum.

Okehampton attacked determinedly but good tackling by Theo Evans, Daniel Sergeant and Rory Kirkman kept them at bay. Davis scored with a run the full length of the pitch to complete his hat-trick.

TAVISTOCK started slowly in this rearranged local derby, which left them playing catch-up rugby for the rest of the game.

The main difference between the sides was Okehampton?s ability to pass the ball wide, away from the tackle area. This stretched Tavistock?s defence to allow the Okehampton runners room to score.

Tavistock did well in loose play, running and passing with confidence. They were missing three key players and did well to come back into the game.

Tavistock?s tries were scored by Charlie Wood, Max Phillips, William Stenhouse, Aaron Dobie and Jordan Stacey.

Training starts at 10am on Sunday. New players (school Year 3) are always welcome to join ? call 01822 616625 for details.

TAVISTOCK U7s? return fixture against local rivals Okehampton on Sunday was just as keenly fought as their encounter in November.

Daniel Dobie opened the scoring for Tavistock with a typically determined break and as the teams traded try for try Harry Snowden notched two, outpacing the defenders after good support work from Gavin Ball and Lawrence Harrison.

Christian Holmes carried the ball well as Tavistock took the game to Okehampton, who responded admirably levelling the score with minutes to go despite terrier like defensive work from Harry Snowden, George Carter and Daniel Dobie.

David Northey made the decisive break, skillfully weaving his way to the line to put Tavistock in front before George Carter sealed the game with a well taken try.

The second game was similarly well contested with Okehampton opening brightly before Mathew Dobie spotted the open space and streaked to the line to score a flawless try.

Both defences worked hard to snuff out opposition attacks with Tom Jackman, Barney Megicks, Adam Williams diligently tracking their opposite numbers to make telling tackles.

Nick Jory and Marcus Hoddinott scored classy tries for the home side using intelligence and speed to spot the gaps and capitalise on opportunities.

Zak Brinkhurst and Edward Brain patiently waited for their chances to impress with powerful runs before player of the match Tom Jackman dodged his way to the line to score a memorable try.

Okehampton continued to plug away and were rewarded with a deserved try in the closing stages of an entertaining contest.

This Sunday training at the club at 10am.
