Tavistock A 2
United Services HC 3
FOLLOWING on from the previous two weeks solid performances, Tavistock A hockey team were looking to maintain the uplift in performance.
Having drawn with third placed St Austell and then beating Dart with an excellent team performance, Tavistock were hoping on another three points to get them away of the danger area in the league. With the full strength squad available for the first time, the home side were looking to build from a strong defence and use their passing game to attack the visitors.
After a positive start, where Tavistock began to move the ball around well, USHC started to apply the pressure and the home side began to loose shape. There seemed a lot of confusion in the usually steady defence and this allowed US to keep the ball working around the home 25 yard area. With constant pressure USHC gained numerous short corners and were soon ahead by two well worked goals.
After the break, Tavistock were looking to work themselves back into the game but the same theme continued with the visitors applying further pressure and gaining another goal from close range.
But the home side came back and good work up the flanks via Honey and Barratt allowed Heard the space and time to work the ball into the USHC D. With the silky skills of Edwards and Aveyard moving the ball around the pitch, pressure was one way and Tavistock scored there own from a well worked short corner.
Another goal soon came from Heard following some great play and ball retention from Daniels in the heart of the Tavistock attack.
Goalkeeper Mingo was keeping the fast breaking USHC side at bay and Tavistock were running the ball at will from defence. A couple of close chances to equal the score were missed but a great fight back by Tavistock could not gain that elusive third goal.
