THE season for music festivals is over but for die-hard music fans there is a new one being launched in West Devon this month.
Based in Tavistock, the new event aimed at rock and blues fans is called the Tavisrock N Blues Fest.
Plans are well in advance to turn this into an integral part of the annual 'must attend' festival calendar.
The Wharf is organising the event, together with Plymouth's Rock Chicken Artistes entertainment agency.
The festival line-up was put together by Rock Chicken's Ellie Hopton.
Ellie said: 'I've been harbouring the festival dream for over two years and because I work so closely with this particular venue, I really couldn't find a better place to launch one. The park is a stone's throw away, it's got a massive car park and with the bus station just up the road it's easy to get to for everyone which is obviously an important factor.
'For 2009 we are working on a full weekend event with outside marquees for extra stages. The concept has really taken off and already I've been approached from companies interested in sponsoring next year's event but for now all our concentration is on making this year's a roaring success.
'The prospects for Tavistock can only be good as it will bring new people into the town and I'm sure that will be most welcome by local traders'.
This year's event will be on Friday October 17 with a line-up that should turn the venue into a heaving mass of music fans.
Popular covers band Joker were first to be snapped up followed by local tribute band Free & Co who themselves pulled a sizeable crowd at the venue only a couple months ago when they gigged there for the first time.
Slide guitar and bluesman Ben Carr, well known in Plymouth jazz and blues circles, will be making an appearance with his band The Hot Rats.
Then two Blues bands, Smokestack, a regular in Tavistock, and The Doghouse Blues will also be hitting the stage.
Opening the show will be a young original indie rock band to watch out for called The Adventures of......
The three-piece recently won the Battle of the Bands at the venue and part of their array of prizes was to secure the opening slot for Tavisrock.
Singer Adam said 'We're looking forward to showing the festival audience what we have been working on and the Wharf is the perfect place to do this, it's a great venue with terrific atmosphere, wicked sound system and spacious stage!'
The event starts at 7pm and runs until midnight. The stands will include a tattooist, caricaturist and 'boho' clothing.
