IT was a great night for Tavistock Community FC at the Devon FA Community awards sponsored by McDonalds.
Popular Will Reed received runner up for the Devon FA coach of the year award for his tireless work with the disability footballers in our area, the Tavi Specials as well as his work with the children at the Tavistock Mini Soccer Centre.
Robyn Hammond of TCFC Ladies squad and Tavi Specials coach received a runner-up Volunteer Award for her work with disability football and her valuable help with severely autistic children connected with Tavistock Youth Cafe Plus.
A big cheer then went up for Josh Midson-Homes for taking the Respect and Fair Play Award for the U14s TCFC Girls. Chairman of the Devon FA Bernard Leach presented Josh with a cheque for £200 to spend on his team — well deserved due to the way the team conducted themselves last season.
For the second year in a row, Allen Lewis of the Tavi Specials and organiser of the Son-Rise Cup , received the Outstanding Contribution to the Respect Programme for raising the standard of behaviour on football pitches to a better level.
He spoke to the guests openly about his passion to see football cleaned up and about his pleasure in working with Dave Keast and Adam Hopkins of the Devon FA and what an honour it was to win this award for the second time.
Allen dedicated the trophy to the memory of his late brother-in-law Stephen Acton, a huge football fan, who died recently.
This was a very successful start to the 2011-2012 season for Tavistock Community FC.
