LADY Modiford's Primary School in Walkhampton indulged its staff, pupils and their families in a one-off 'Café Day' recently.
The school provided the opportunity to cater for the wider community in a series of delicious meals served throughout the day.
The menu included a full English breakfast and a three-course evening meal, featuring leek and potato soup, Massaman beef curry and a mushroom and spinach plait as a vegetarian alternative.
There was also summer fruit pudding and white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake for dessert.
The day was also about promoting healthy food — school cook Anne Hext-Williams has spent the last year teaching pupils how to cook a variety of wholesome meals.
Not only were the children involved with the preparation of the food for the Café Day, but several of the older pupils also became waiters and waitresses.
Anne said: 'The pupils have been working incredibly hard and I am so proud of all of them. I really hope our café will return in the near future.'
The proceeds raised are being used to purchase a polytunnel for growing the school's own fruit and vegetables, and a chicken coop and chickens to provide eggs for use in the school kitchen.
