Ann Wilson and Heather Rayne from Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) were hoping to attract a few extra volunteers from the show.
TASS, based at The Anchorage Centre in Tavistock, runs a community transport service and is always looking for a few extra hands on the driving rota.
Ann said: 'Even if it's just a few hours a week, it's very welcome – whatever people can offer. Some of our volunteers simply get involved in one big thing a year – others are there all the time.'
There are many services run by TASS for elderly people within the community – one that not so many may know about is the befriending service.
Befrienders visit people in their own homes and help by providing company, and supporting people on trips to the library, to the shops, to go on outings – whatever might be required to make a person less lonely.
TASS is also the base for Tavistock Memory Café, which provides a social setting for sufferers of dementia and their carers.
