LOCALLY-based art historian and presenter Sue Andrew will give an illustrated talk on ‘The Three Hares’ at St John’s Church in Horrabridge on Friday, March 24.

Those who are familiar with St Eustachius’ Church in Tavistock may have noticed this motif on one of the roof bosses inside the building.

Its use in Devon churches is thought to date from the late 15th century, though it has been found as far afield as Buddhist cave temples on the edge of the Gobi Desert in China. It is believed to have been in existence for more than 1,400 years, figuring in the mediaeval worlds of Islam and Judaism as well as Buddhism.

The talk will start at 7.30pm and costs £5 per adult; children are free. All proceeds will go to the Friends of St John’s, raising funds for refurbishment projects at the church.
