AN informative and exciting event is all set to take place in Okehampton tonight (Thursday).
The Okehampton branch of the Devonshire Association are meeting in Fairplace Church at 7.30pm to hear a talk by author Tania Crosse, entitled 'Writing a Dartmoor Novel'.
Tania's writing explores Dartmoor's history first and foremost. She is currently working on a series of novels to illustrate the rich history of Tavistock and the surrounding area of Dartmoor from Victorian times onward.
Tania said she hated being categorised as a writer of historical romance and is adamant that the history comes first with the human tales developing from her research. She said her characters lead harsh, demanding lives and their stories are often cruel and harrowing.
Her latest book, A Bouquet of Thorns, is set to be published this autumn.
This will be the Okehampton branch of the Devonshire Association's first meeting of the new season.
The venue of Fairplace Church is a one off as the Ockment Centre, where members usually meet, is currently undergoing renovations. They will, however, be back at the Ockment Centre in October.
