WHEN horticulturist David Miles returns to the Garden House near Buckland Monachorum on April 25 to give a talk, it will be like stepping back in time. Mr Miles was three years old when he came to live in the former rectory with his family, including father Bill who was to become head gardener at the site under the direction of Lionel Fortescue, the famous plantsman and visionary. During his talk 'Fifty Years in Horticulture' Mr Miles will recall how he was 'bitten by the gardening bug' when he was just a boy watching his father and Lionel Fortescue working in the walled garden. At age 13 he was paid 9p an hour to do the weeding! His talk will be followed by tea for all those attending. For information call 01822 854769.
