A WOMAN from Okehampton will take on three of the UK's highest mountains later this year in a bid to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust.
Debbie Miller is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, tackling the heights of Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland. Her challenge takes place in July.
She said: 'Meningitis is a devastating disease that can strike anyone at any age without warning. The signs are often difficult to spot because early on, they can be like those of colds and flu.
'Knowing the symptoms not only saves lives but can also help prevent the debilitating after-effects that meningitis can cause.
'I wanted to tackle this challenge and raise money to help the Meningitis Trust so that they are able to provide long-term emotional and practical support to those affected by meningitis.
'The challenge is a tribute to my beautiful niece Ellena Mae Vanstone, who tragically lost her fight against meningitis in 1999 aged nearly two.
'Taking part in the Three Peak Challenge will be an incredible experience and a great way to make a difference.'
If you would like to make a donation to Debbie you can join her in the Charter Hall on Saturday, April 20 from 9.15am for a coffee morning and table top sale, or log onto http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DebbieMiller97">http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DebbieMiller97
