CALLING all Year 11 school leavers — there are just a few free places left on this summer's Devon Challenge Project, a five-day residential stay at Pixie's Holt on Dartmoor.
The project, successfully pioneered from the Alexander Centre in Tavistock last year, is aimed at developing self-confidence, commitment and teamwork in young people leaving school.
John Collacott, community education tutor, said thousands of students from all over the country will be taking part in the challenge at different centres throughout the West Country — the 'experience of a lifetime'.
'The challenge project will offer two separate five-day residential courses using various themes including conservation work, outdoor and adventurous activities.
'Accommodation, food and transport will be provided free of charge so participants will only need to find pocket money,' he said.
The courses will be held on August 6 to 10 and 13 to 17. Activities will include moorland walking, caving, climbing and team-building tasks.
'All equipment will be provided, including waterproof clothing and footwear,' Mr Collacott added.
Any year 11 students from West Devon interested in a place on the challenge should contact John Collacott at the Alexander Centre, Plymouth Road, Tavistock, telephone 01822 613522.
