GENTLE strolls and strenuous hikes on Dartmoor are being organised for the festive season.

All the walks are led by Dartmoor National Park Authority guides and vary from short, easygoing routes to more demanding treks lasting up to six hours.

A four-hour 'Water and Stone' walk leaves from Princetown this Saturday (December 20) at 10.30am, taking in Meavy Head, Black Tor Falls, Fur Tor, Swelltor and Foggintor.

Children can join Ranger Ralph for a two hour 'Winter Warming Walk', starting at 1.30pm on Sunday December 21 from Newbridge (book a place by phoning 01822 890414).

And there are several walks after Christmas to help shed those excess pounds, including one from Postbridge on Boxing Day and a family stroll at Haytor on New Year's Eve.

The guided walks are free to people who arrive by public transport and produce their ticket.
