THE high standard of cuisine in the Bedford Hotel, Tavistock has just earned it the highly coveted AA Two Red Rosettes.

The rosettes were given following a recent visit to the hotel's Woburn Restaurant by an AA hotel inspector — making it one of just under 40 establishments in the whole of Devon having a similar award.

The AA rosette award particularly recognises the consistency and judgement in combining and balancing ingredients with dishes featuring seasonal produce sourced from quality local suppliers.

Owner of the Bedford Hotel, Philip Davies, said: 'We have only owned the hotel for six months — but this is well-deserved recognition of the considerable efforts of head chef Peter Roberts and his brigade in that short time.'

However, he said the hotel did not intend to rest on its laurels.

'We will be looking for at least three rosettes upon the occasion of the next AA visit,' he said.

The AA inspector also commented favourably on the refurbishment that has already been undertaken at the hotel — with further improvements scheduled for the next 12 months.

'We are delighted to be the owners of such a prestigious property as the Bedford and are enjoying restoring it to its rightful position as one of Devon's premiere hotels,' said Mr Davies.

Prior to settling in Devon, head chef Peter Roberts worked for a number of leading Michelin-rated hotels in this country before joining the Bedford. He has spelt time with the Cunard Line and HMS Invincible and as far afield as Mauritius. His many awards include both Gold and Silver Medals from Hotelolympia.
