NOW that the parish council have decided that they own the shoppers? car park at Yelverton, could they take steps to tackle the abuse of the parking facilities? At present we have a situation where the short stay regulations are ignored by a number of persons, therefore preventing people using the shops and in many cases shopping at Tescos, Morrisons etc instead. The lack of spaces also creates queues of cars waiting for one to become vacant, which blocks the entrance to drivers wanting to go through to the petrol pumps (especially when some inconsiderate people leave their cars in the middle of the area), and also the road to Meavy. The combination of the above causes chaos and there is no alternative available. The long term parking outside St John?s Church is almost always full of commuters? cars, which, whilst it reduces traffic into Plymouth, prevents the use of this area as overflow parking. The Rock Complex parking is designated as private to those using the complex, although it is often the only refuge for those unable to park elsewhere. It seems to me that the bays on the old aerodrome could be utilised for commuter parking, thus freeing up the church car park for local shoppers. Also there should be steps taken to stop people parking long-term in the shopping area, where it clearly states that it is for short stay only. Tony Rushbrooke Burrator Road Yelverton
