BOTH divisions of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League currently boast joint leaders.

In division one, The Young Ones made up four points to join Tavistock A in top spot after beating them 7-3 last week. The Young Ones George and Edward Haskell both scored fine maximums and Andy Moppett pulled out all the stops to beat Tavistock A's Fred Phillips 4-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5. Roger Bowkett and Fred teamed up against George and Edward to win the doubles and avoid losing pole position in the table. The Young Ones scores were George Haskell (3), Edward Haskell (3), Andy Moppett (1). Tavistock A scores were Fred Phillips (0), Peter Hicks (1), Roger Bowkett (1).

Okehampton A took full advantage of the return of Barry Vaughan when they took on Academy A and won 9-1. Despite the result, high praise was given by Okehampton A captain Tony Howick for the performance of the young Academy A players. Tom Pearce played well taking a set off both Barry Vaughan and Barry Denner and then beating Tony Howick in three straight sets after being 7-3 down in the first. Okehampton A scores were Tony Howick (2), Barry Vaughan (3), Barry Denner (3). Academy A scores were Tom Pengelly (0), Tom Pearce (1), Ben Hill (0).

In a re-arranged match, Okehampton A travelled to Anchorage B and secured a bonus point with a 10-0 victory. Both Dave Wilson and Roger Gilbert took Barry Vaughan to five sets. Anchorage B scores were Dave Wilson (0), Roger Gilbert (0), Jenny Gilbert (0). Okehampton A scores were Barry Vaughan (3), Barry Denner (3), Tony Howick (3). Okehampton A are now in third place. Barry Vaughan also maintains his 100% record for the season.

In the mid-table clash between Anchorage A just came out on top 6-4 against the J Team. Martin Fowler secured a fine maximum for the Anchorage side. The J Team player Sarah Jackson did well to beat Colin Brooker in five sets and Sarah and Nick Jackson took the doubles against Martin Fowler and Dave Edwards 9-11, 11-1, 6-11, 6-11. Anchorage A scores were Martin Fowler (3), Colin Brooker (1), Dave Edwards (2). The J Team scores were Nick Jackson (2), Frank Cockburn (0), Sarah Jackson (1).

In division two, North Wyke joined Milton Abbot at the top after a 9-1 win against Oke Young Ones B who were only able to field two players. The improving Harry Bryant did well to take a set of North Wyke's Steve Granger and to beat Paulo Dumont in the fifth. Harry teamed up with Kieran Coyle against Jill Dilley and Steve Granger in the doubles but lost in four sets. North Wyke scores were Steve Granger (3), Paulo Dumont (2), Jill Dilley (3).

Top place Milton Abbot were at home to Moretonhampstead but narrowly lost 4-6. Moreton's Ken Underhill scored a fine maximum and was ably supported by Brian Skilton who beat both Milton's Tim Westcott and Mark Cousins. Milton's Theo Cousins came from behind to prevent Brian securing a maximum winning through in five sets. Ken and Brian won the doubles against Mark and Tim to secure the win for the away team. Milton Abbot scores were Mark Cousins (1), Theo Cousins (2), Tim Westcott (1). Moreton scores were Ken Underhill (3), Brian Skilton (2), Richard Underhill (0).
