IN the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League's Bill Fogerty Cup first round results were as follows: Tavistock A (bye); Young Ones A beat Young Ones B (w/o); Okehampton B beat Moretonhampstead (5-4); Anchorage A beat Okehampton A (6-3); The Young Ones beat Anchorage C (9-0); Academy A beat Anchorage B (8-1); North Wyke beat Milton Abbot (6-3); Bridestowe lost to The J Team (1-8).
Winning teams will progress to the quarter final stage and losers will enter the Bill Fogerty consolation tournament.
The outstanding and most closely fought game of the round was the tussle between Academy A player Tom Pengelly and Anchorage B player Jenny Gilbert. Tom took the first game 21-17. Jenny then replied with a close 22-20 win in the second. The third game was finally won by Tom 25-23.
Despite their overall defeat the Anchorage B players commented on how enjoyable the match had been.
