AJ's Big Band will be swinging into town on May 6 at 3pm when they appear at the Wharf, Tavistock, for an afternoon of musical nostalgia.

This highly acclaimed 18-piece band, led by saxophonist Ken Parr, has built an enviable reputation for its authentic re-creation of the big band classics of the thirties and forties.

The combination of vibrant playing, swinging arrangements and romantic vocals provide an exciting musical programme as well as a nostalgic journey back in time.

The concert features a tribute to Glen Miller which includes familiar standards such as American Patrol, String of Pearls, In the Mood and Moonlight Serenade, played with relaxed precision which captures the phrasing and dynamics that so typify the music of Miller's orchestra.

The show includes well known numbers from the other legendary band leaders of the period including some of the British big band hits.

Complementing the instrumental line up of this talented band is vocalist Joy Macleod who brings warmth and glamour to a programme which is rich in entertainment value.
